About Mobile Insurance Watchdog

What Is the Mobile Insurance Watchdog?

Simply put, we’re an impartial organization who ranks 3rd party mobile phone and gadget insurers by two factors: price and net reputation.

Many comparison sites give you a breakdown of who offers cheap phone insurance, and it’s definitely an important consideration. We also allow you to sort by price. But none (that we know of) help you decide whether or not the company is any good.

After all, what’s the point of making monthly payments to any insurer if they’re unlikely to help you when actually want to use the service you’re paying for?

How Do You Calculate the Net Reputation of the Insurers?

To save you having to trawl through countless review sites and forums, our advanced crawling algorithm does the hard work for you, tabulating both positive and negative (as well as neutral) reviews from around the web in real time.

Of course, we don’t trust robots to do a quality job any more than you do. That’s why our team of human editors – many of which come from an insurance background – refine the results with a keen eye to weed out any useless information, false-positives and even suspicious ‘customer’ reviews that appear to have been posted by the company themselves.

What you’re left with is a score which represents a good overview of hundreds of real customer experiences from around the Internet.

Why aren’t the main mobile handset companies on the list?

The fact we haven’t included them in our rankings is not intended as a comment on how good they are as mobile insurance providers; generally speaking, EE, Virgin and all of the other mobile providers are safe options but for whatever reason the majority of our consumers are trying to find impartial information on third-party providers. It’s these providers who have a varying track record for dealing with claims efficiently.

Is the Mobile Insurance Watchdog a non-profit organization?

No, and as we’re all about transparency, we have no issues disclosing that if you find a company you’re happy with via MIwatchdog.org, we receive a kick-back if you sign up with them.

We can, however, categorically state that our affiliate status does not have any impact on rankings or our impartiality. That would entirely defeat the purpose of the service, which is to serve consumers first and foremost.

I’m having a nightmare making a claim through Company X. Can you help?

Not that we have a strict privacy policy in place and do not share your details with any other party, except with explicit and directly requested permission from you.
